Hospice volunteer services are designed to play a vital role in enhancing the quality of care delivered to the patient/family by encouraging community participation in the overall hospice program. Volunteers have limited roles and tasks within their scope of practice as they are not certified individuals.
How hospice volunteers serve our patients (depending on availability):
- Provide support and companionship to the patient and his or her family
- Respite, Caregiver relief
- Reading, Writing letters, Listening to music
- Conversations
- Taking walks
- Light household task
- Errands
- Supportive calls / visits to the surviving family who just lost a loved one
